My favourite book chat book this year was See You In The Cosmos. It is written by Jack Cheng the genre is family and friendships. It is about a boy who loves rockets and he wants to send his iPod into space but his dad died when he was very little and he doesn’t know much about him.

I enjoyed this book because it was very intense in some parts. This is one of the only books that I could not put down I just wanted to read chapter after chapter. Another reason why I enjoyed this book was that each chapter ended on a cliff hanger.

What is your favourite book of all time?

My family celebrates a lot of holidays for example we celebrate Christmas and Easter.

Though we don’t celebrate Easter as much as we do Christmas.

On Christmas Eve we have dinner with our family.

Our dinner mainly consists of lobster, salad, and for dessert we have pavlova.

We really enjoy Christmas dinner because it is a way to catch up with family and have a good time doing so.

Since I live in Australia we celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.

On Christmas we put up a Christmas tree and we put up a few other things like a star on our door.

My family loves Christmas.

What is your favourite holiday? explain why.

“EUREKA!” exclaimed the miner, “I found gold.” A dirty face emerged from the gloomy mineshaft, eight other miners crowded around the dazed miner. “Amazing,” they all said.

Life was hard in the 1850s many people were getting sick and dying so when gold was discovered in Ballarat many family’s rushed over to get rich and live a good life.

When you made it to the gold fields you could of had a job like a miner or a shop keeper.  

When the miners had enough of having to pay 30 shillings for a gold license, they rebelled against the government so the Eureka Stockade was built, the miners also burned down The Eureka Hotel.

Some important dates in the gold rush are 1851 when gold was first discovered.

During this unit my partner and I made a part of our class diorama. Our building that we made was the Criterion Store. We also made another part of it as well which was the diggings. 

I used the PLA of collaboration to work with my partner to make our part of the diorama.

A challenge that I faced during this unit was making our building in our diorama even though it was my favourite part as well. We also went on a amazing two night camp we had a lot of fun.

Something that I learnt about myself was that I am very creative when it comes to designing things.

A summary of this experience would be that it is very fun and I would definitely do it again if I were to.

What did you enjoy most about a unit that you have done is school?

This week the year fives participated in fun activities like for example on Monday we got a workshop with Oliver phommavhan a well established author who writes books like Thai-riffic!, Con-Nerd & The other Christy. 

We also got to vote in the short listed books. (For our school) my favourite was Sorry Day I liked this book because the pictures were detailed and realistic and it told a important message, which won the award for best short listed book 2019. What I think makes a good non-fiction book is that the information is correct (because it is sometimes out dated) and if the author is trusted and he/she states his/her sources. 

What was your favourite short listed book?

Last week the year fives went on a camp to Sovereign Hill which everyone loved. 

One thing that I learned that I did not know before was how to write in copperplate which is basically the way that people wrote in the 1850s.

My favourite part of camp was panning for gold because we had the chance to get some.

I used the Carey PLA of Curiosity in the school program when we had to Draw all of the different shapes and designs in the drawing book.

To enhance the program I would see if the teacher would pretend to smack us with the whip if we got ink on our hands.
